Workforce
Training Program Description
The Center for
Training and Career's Workforce Training Program introduces to students
the skills necessary to successfully obtain work, maintain employment
and advance in their careers. Students participate in this work experience
program based on a combination of employment, internships, apprenticeships,
job shadowing, service learning, mentoring and field trip opportunities
to develop their career portfolios.

Learner Objectives:
Through enrollment
in the Workforce Training Program, students will be able to:
• Write a competitive resume
• Write a letter of inquiry/application
• Correctly complete a job application
• Write a post-interview “Thank You” letter
• Interpret workplace safety principles and laws
• Interpret employee rights and responsibilities
• Describe employer responsibilities
• Communicate effectively on the job
• Meet employer expectations.
• Demonstrate teamwork and shared leadership skills
• Demonstrate responsible use of income and money management.
• Identify proper workplace ethics
• Interpret employment laws and regulations
• Research potential sources of careers, jobs and employment
• Research potential post-secondary educational opportunities
• Describe the fundamental requirements for starting a business
• Effectively participate in an employee evaluation
• Use internet services to develop an electronic portfolio (Students
compile and post their resumes and electronic portfolios on the site

• Demonstrate knowledge of workplace safety, basic first aid and awareness
of hazardous work environments
• Interpret payroll deductions
• Understand the benefits of unemployment insurance, Medicare, social
security, and workers compensation
• Demonstrate leadership skills associated with the workplace
• Negotiate a pay and benefits package.
