CTC's
Independent Study Program (I.S.P.) is a flexible, yet concentrated method of earning the remainder of credits needed for a high school diploma.
The coursework is made up of a series of homework assignments, weekly
seminars taught by instructors, and research projects.
In
addition to regular attendance, I.S.P. students are also required to complete
no fewer than three trimester credits per quarter. However, the majority
of I.S.P. students are able to complete more than three.
Students succeeding in passing at least two out of the three assessments
and who have at least 45 Minneapolis school district credits are eligible to
enroll in I.S.P. All enrolled I.S.P. students meet with an assigned lead
teacher to develop a study plan for the remainder of the school quarter.
Students
must be willing to maintain 90-100% attendance every week, be comfortable
asking teachers for assistance, be self-starters, and pay attention to
due dates for homework and projects. All assignments are graded by teachers
and are only considered to be “passing” if grades are 72%
or higher. Students not able to obtain 72% on an assignment may redo the
assignment for an improved score.
I.S.P. students with
jobs also have the opportunity to earn elective credits through the work
experience program. Work experience credit is earned through a combination
of completing I.S.P. class assignments and hours worked on the job.
Students who are
best served by the I.S.P. are those who have the ability to finish the
academic work of high school but have limited time to attend full time
school due to jobs, family responsibilities, health issues, or a combination
of these. A graduating ISP student can choose to graduate with the CTC class, or
the class affiliated with their high school. |
